Rice with Sweet and Sour Sauce
454 kcal & 26g protein per serving
Ingredients (for 2 people):
- 150g brown rice
- 200g (vegetarian) seasoned chicken
- 300g Oriental stir-fry vegetables
- 25ml sweet & sour stir-fry sauce
Equipment:
How to Light the Camp Stove:
- Remove the rings from the Camp Stove and take out the coal grate.
- Place a firelighter under the cast iron coal tray in your Windmill camp stove.
- Fill the coal tray with a layer of charcoal or briquettes (preferably coconut briquettes for longer burn time) according to the instructions in the manual.
- Light the firelighters with a long match or lighter and leave the air supply fully open for maximum draft.
- Wait approximately 10–15 minutes until the coals are glowing well and have formed a white-gray ash layer.
- Give it some time to reach the right temperature. Once the briquettes have turned gray, they are ready to use.
- Place the cooking rings with a cast iron pan (or the grill grate, or the plancha) back on the Camp Stove. Let the cast iron come up to temperature before you start cooking.
Preheating the Skillet:
Once the coals are hot, place the skillet on the grate. Let it preheat for 3-5 minutes so the cast iron reaches temperature. This ensures a perfect sear on your chicken and prevents sticking. Don't forget to add a little oil once the pan is hot.
Pro tip: Use spicy oil!

Method:
- Cook the rice according to the instructions on the package.
- Heat your Windmill skillet on the camp stove and cook the chicken until done.
- Add the Oriental stir-fry vegetables and stir-fry for a few minutes.
- Stir in the sweet and sour stir-fry sauce and remove from heat. Done!
This is comfort food with a fresh twist, perfect for outdoor cooking. Whether you're at a campsite, in your garden, or just by the open window — with this dish, you bring the outdoors in (or vice versa).
After Cooking: How to Clean Your Skillet
Cast iron deserves a bit of love. After cooking, let the pan cool slightly, remove food residues with warm water and a brush, and dry it immediately. For more tips on maintenance and seasoning, check our maintenance page.
