      Rice with Sweet and Sour Sauce from the Campfire

      Need a break from the hustle and bustle of the day? This dish is exactly what you need: nutritious, full of flavor, and ready in no time. As the aroma of sweet and sour sauce blends with the fresh outdoor air, you feel the tension melt away. Cooking outdoors in a cast iron skillet does something to you. It slows you down, connects you, and gives you new energy. In no time, you create a delicious, warm meal — right under the open sky or on your balcony. Ideal for a weekday evening when you still want to be outside. Light, nutritious, and with that typical fire-touch that only cast iron can give.

      Rice with Sweet and Sour Sauce

      Ingredients (for 2 people):

      • 150g brown rice
      • 200g (vegetarian) seasoned chicken
      • 300g Oriental stir-fry vegetables
      • 25ml sweet & sour stir-fry sauce

      How to Light the Camp Stove:

      1. Remove the rings from the Camp Stove and take out the coal grate.
      2. Place a firelighter under the cast iron coal tray in your Windmill camp stove.
      3. Fill the coal tray with a layer of charcoal or briquettes (preferably coconut briquettes for longer burn time) according to the instructions in the manual.
      4. Light the firelighters with a long match or lighter and leave the air supply fully open for maximum draft.
      5. Wait approximately 10–15 minutes until the coals are glowing well and have formed a white-gray ash layer.
      6. Give it some time to reach the right temperature. Once the briquettes have turned gray, they are ready to use.
      7. Place the cooking rings with a cast iron pan (or the grill grate, or the plancha) back on the Camp Stove. Let the cast iron come up to temperature before you start cooking.

      Preheating the Skillet:

      Once the coals are hot, place the skillet on the grate. Let it preheat for 3-5 minutes so the cast iron reaches temperature. This ensures a perfect sear on your chicken and prevents sticking. Don't forget to add a little oil once the pan is hot.

      Pro tip: Use spicy oil!

      Method:

      1. Cook the rice according to the instructions on the package.
      1. Heat your Windmill skillet on the camp stove and cook the chicken until done.
      1. Add the Oriental stir-fry vegetables and stir-fry for a few minutes.
      1. Stir in the sweet and sour stir-fry sauce and remove from heat. Done!

      After Cooking: How to Clean Your Skillet
